Dustin grew up west of Nanton, Alberta, on his family’s ranch. In the western way of life, he started riding with Sid Cook when he was 6 year old. And under his watchful eye, started his first horse at the age of 11.
Dustin feels very fortunate to have met Sid, who gave him a good solid foundation with horses and many other aspects of life.
Shortly following high school, Dustin set out and headed west to work on the Gang Ranch. It was here that he would meet his wife Carmen and worked his way to being Cowboss. They also welcomed their 2 kids Grace and Hunter.
Over the years, Dustin has worked on many ranches from the mountains of BC to the prairies of Saskatchewan all while maintaining his colt riding business.
Dustin and his family have since settled southwest of Cardston, Alberta where they run a few cows and raise and train their own personal horses.
Recently, Dustin has begun riding for Pekisko Ranches, where he is the forman training their horses, producing ranch and rope horses. Dustin enjoys the mix of colts, taking horses farther and cow work.
As a person that has dedicated their life to horsemanship, his favorite part about working with horses is watching and feeling the changes that take place within the horse. It’s always an adventure to see how little or how much it takes to get a change.
Dustin is thankful for all the good Horsemen and Stockmen that he has worked for and had the opportunity to be around. If it wasn’t for them he wouldn’t be where he is today.
